Welcome to UCLan Through the Ages!
This 2 year Heritage Lottery Fund project allows UCLan students the opportunity to help develop and get involved in a range of history based events and activities that will explore the stories of UCLan and the local area. These include activities such as walks, trips, traditional Lancashire food events, history talks, history bursaries, and much more.
We are looking for students to volunteer on the project and we currently have two main areas that students to get involved with.

Events Assistant:
Throughout the project, there will be lots of different events and activities being run, both by students and by the project team. These events and activities will give students the opportunity to explore different aspects of UCLan and Preston heritage.
Volunteers will be given the opportunity to pitch ideas for events and will also be asked to help to plan and deliver activities with the project team and possibly with societies and other students.

Research Assistant:
We want to make sure that all of our events and activities are as historically accurate as possible. To do this, we need to check facts and find sources!
This can be time consuming, so this would be something that volunteers could really help with. You may be asked to find something out for a specific event or to help a society to research a local historical figure or building for their activity as part of the project’s bursary opportunities.
Training Opportunities?
There also will be opportunities for volunteers to undertake some free training with the project! These opportunities for example include learning how to digitise archived documents and photographs, learning how to conduct local history research and the chance to attend a workshop at a national museum.
